Tonight, Nick and I attended Boston Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker." As always, it was wonderful. In fact, in the 5 years we've been going, this year's dancers were the best. Despite the rainy weather and my high heels, which wouldn't cooperate with me all night, we had a great date night out in the city.
We did notice, however, how the staggering economy has affected holiday events such as The Nutcracker. The Opera House, which is usually full even on weeknight performances, was half empty. People were not storming the gift counter for Nutcrackers attire or gifts. Even the orchestra's conductor came out at the end of the show to ask for monetary support for the ballet. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
